Organization Background and Information
The Mission of the Wesley House Community Corporation, Inc. (WHCC) is to provide safe, decent and healthy emergency housing and to assist families and individuals to move toward economic self-sufficiency, establish permanent housing and reduce their dependence on public support. WHCC strives to prudently but creatively utilize all available resources and to develop community collaborations to reach our goals.
Wesley House Community Corporation, Inc. (WHCC) was created in August of 1991 as an affiliate corporation of Community Action Agency of Delaware County, Inc. (CAADC). At that time, WHCC acquired Wesley House a former Methodist Episcopal Church that had been converted to a mass emergency shelter facility for homeless persons in the City of Chester. The shelter was suffering from severe administrative and financial difficulties and required extensive renovations to provide safe, decent housing for this homeless population. WHCC, in collaboration with CAADC, has completed numerous rehabilitation and programmatic upgrades to the Wesley House Shelter. The Wesley House Shelter is now a vital part of the County’s Continuum of Care providing emergency shelter to homeless families and single women.
