Project W Founding Member Patty Bassett helps Barbara Paolone to sign up for membership at Project W’s Kickoff Open House on March 13th.
The Giving Circle, Project W, sprung up as a group of women looking to improve the lives of women and families in Delaware County. The dedicated group has been steadily growing in numbers as more women reach out to help their neighbors. Working out of her home in Swarthmore, Jean Steinke, Project W founding member states, “We’ve seen tremendous response in our first two months. We’re thrilled. We have hit our 2019 goal of 50 members this first year.” Lauren Sustersic, Board of Advisors Member added, “And we’re not stopping there, if more members join we’ll make an even greater impact by awarding larger grants to charitable organizations in Delaware County.”
Project W membership has a wide-range of enrollment, from age 19 to well into the 60’s. There are also 2 teams that have signed up, sharing the cost of the $550 membership. While a large percentage of members live in Delaware County, there are others who live as far away as New Jersey or Washington DC, who want to help wherever it is needed. This array of membership allows for a diversity of opinion when deciding on which charities to support.
Project W, operating under the charitable umbrella of The Community’s Foundation, created three grant committees focusing on Health, Family and Education. The three leads in these areas are Patty Panzo, Julie Eble and Karen Kemmerer and they are researching charities in their respective committees. Julie Eble, the lead of the Family Grant Committee said, “Many of us support some worthy national and international groups but, right here in Delco, we have many pressing needs, too.” Patty Panzo from the Health Committee added, “Each of the teams will select one charity which our members feel will have the greatest impact.”
There is still time to join this dynamic group of women. Membership closes on June 1, 2019. To find out more, visit ProjW.org.
